Something that many don’t realize is that Nigel Shelby could have been any Black gay man that you know today. Personally, from Elementary through the end of my 7th grade year I was called “faggot, punk, sissy, etc.” almost daily.
So I’m moving about my apartment this morning and I find myself in a space of gratitude. Not the typical type of gratitude where I’m just thankful for things that are going on and everything, but I find myself in this moment thankful that I am not yet where I am going.
When approached about being a part of this project, there was no way I could say “no”. This is a conversation that we the church have put off for far too long. I am honored to be one of these voices and grateful to BET.com and Clay Cane for the opportunity to speak just a bit of my truth.
